Caring For Creatures is proud to announce our partnership with the Veteran Pet Adoption Program sponsored by Coming Home Well, a veteran hosted radio show in Charlottesville.  Through this partnership we will be offering FREE ADOPTIONS to veterans in an effort to help fulfill the Vet Pet Adoption Program’s mission of connecting veterans to companion animals to assist in easing depression and anxiety and work towards ending the epidemic of veteran suicide. We see first-hand how therapeutic the companionship of animals are and are so happy to have the opportunity to unite veterans with their next pet through this special program.

Veterans are encouraged to visit our website and browse our pets.  We have marked specific veteran companion animals with an American flag graphic, but they are not exclusive to the program.  Veterans interested in adopting an animal will fill out the standard Caring For Creatures application.  Our adoption coordinator will review the application and upon approval will contact the veteran to arrange a day and time to visit the sanctuary to meet possible companion animal matches in the same process as other applicants.

If a veteran finds a special connection with a dog not identified for the program, our adoption coordinator will assess whether or not the adoption will be successful.  Specific feline candidates may be identified, but all felines are available for adoption through the program.   As with all adoptions, pets will be matched with adopters based on both the needs of the applicant and the needs of the animal.  Our Caring For Creatures adoption coordinator will assist veterans in finding the right animal for them and their lifestyle.

All branches of the military are eligible, including National Guard and Reserves members.  Proof of veteran status and a valid ID (driver’s license, state issued ID card, etc.) are required.

Meet Lilith! What a love! Always smiling, Lilith would love to share a home with kids and other dogs. Approximately 2 years old, Lilith is a lab mix weighing around 50 pounds.

Before coming to CFC from a high kill shelter, Lilith was fortunate enough to land in a wonderful foster home. The family reported that she was terrific in their home. Sleeping through the night and using a pee pad when appropriate and if needed, she clearly added so much to this home, but they were not in a position to keep her full time. In her foster home, she had doggy playmates that she adored and a fenced in yard that was a favorite site for her to run and play and interact with her 4-legged friends. There was a neighboring kitty that she didn’t seem to mind having in her area either. Her family reports that she loves Vienna sausages and Ritz crackers for a treat. She also loves Milk-Bones. She enjoys her squeaky toys but mostly just lays on the floor inside and wants to be shown some love. A very calm and sweet girl, talk about a phenomenal companion pet!! Lilith listens well to her human and does well on a leash. Belly rubs and cuddling sessions are always welcome. Very much a family dog, Lilith would be proud to have kids under her care and if you wish to have a sidekick in your car as you go and do, Lilith would be ideal in that role as well.

We can’t wait to see who will snatch up this incredible girl. Perhaps it might be you??

Several months ago I was a feral kitten known as “The Devil” in the CFC office. I was packed up with two of my foster siblings, Damon and Elena, and off we went to foster care. At first we stayed in our condo, too afraid to move except for the absolute necessities. But our Foster Servant was patient, providing food and quiet until we gathered our courage enough to come out. Needless to say, I led the way. First one to allow pettings, first one to explore outside the condo, and a few weeks later, first one to escape the bedroom and explore the rest of the apartment. Where I led, the others followed. Soon it was Kittens-A-Gogo everywhere. Our Foster Servant provided plenty of play therapy for all of us. We played with her, we played with each other, and we played with other Servants who came to visit. Damon and Elena still worry too much, but I am happy in the world and love the company of Servants. It became clear that I was ready to select my very own Forever Servant. I felt that my light was being hidden in Foster Care and I needed more exposure. It was time to take CFC by storm, showing them what happens when you combine glamour, beauty, and a sweet disposition in one glorious package.

Facts About Me:

**Teenage antics! I’m about five or six months old, which means I have the heart and soul of a kitten. I can play for hours. Glamorous! Picture Duchess from The Aristocats, but dressed in black rather than white. Heart-shaped face with large eyes that sparkle! Long-bodied, long-haired, soft as silk. A tail that goes on for days.
**Things I love (in their proper order): playing with Servants, any toy, but especially string or ribbon
being petted, greeting my Servant when they come home with soft chirrups, being brushed, playing with other cats, eating, and looking out the window!!
**Things I’m working on and think might be fun: sitting beside a Servant on the couch and maybe sleeping on the bed with a Servant!!
**Things I’m still not crazy about: going in the cat carrier, weird tastes in my food (so don’t try to crush a pill in there), and being picked up
**I’m currently the star of the show in the CFC office where I am no longer known as “The Devil.” Stop in and see me sometime but make it soon. With my moviestar good looks and beguiling personality, I won’t be here long.

Caring For Creatures is dedicated to providing high-quality medical care for each animal who comes to us for help. In addition to routine care such as vaccines, parasite control, regular bloodwork diagnostics, and testing for heartworm, feline leukemia and FIV, the sanctuary also pays for spaying/neutering, treatment for heartworm disease, dental work, x-rays, and any orthopedic or other surgery for which the need arises.

As you might guess, taking care of the animals in the sanctuary through veterinary care and medical supplies is one of our largest expenses!  On average, we spend $3,500 each MONTH on veterinary/medical supplies. That’s $43,000 annually!

Our goal is to maintain an ongoing balance of $4,000 in this fund to help offset these expenses.

Please help us reach our goal!  Donate online today by clicking here.   Select “Nose to Tail Medical Fund” on the Donation Designation drop-down menu.   Please consider setting up a monthly recurring payment – Any amount you can give on a monthly basis would be a huge help!

Or, mail your gift to Caring For Creatures, 352 Sanctuary Lane, Palmyra, VA 22963.  Note “Nose to Tail Medical Fund”.  Your gift of any size will be greatly appreciated!

Be sure to follow our Nose to Tail Medical Fund Campaign daily on facebook!

OUR VOLUNTEERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Orientations are typically held the third Saturday of every month.

Dogs:  11 am – 1 pm

Cats:  1 pm – 3 pm

During orientation, you’ll get to meet our awesome animals and learn about the various ways you can help.    Attend one or both of the orientations, depending on whether you’d like to work with our dogs, cats, or both!

Dog walkers and ‘cat socialization specialists’ are always in high demand!  In addition to working one on one with our animals, volunteers are always needed to help out with various adoption and  fundraising events along with transporting animals to and from vet appointments.

For more information on volunteering,  click on the ‘Volunteer’ tab at the top of our webpage.

We will look forward having you become a part of our Caring For Creatures Volunteer Family!
