HISTORY: Dexter was surrendered to CFC when his owner could no longer provide care for him.

Meet Dexter, a stylish long-haired black cat with an elegant appearance. Dexter made his debut at CFC in early 2020 when he arrived from a managed colony, and he was swiftly adopted that spring. He enjoyed a loving home until he returned to CFC.

Dexter has a deep affection for people and truly relishes the attention they give him. He enjoys being petted, whether it’s gentle head rubs or full body strokes. Dexter is not fond of being picked up and prefers to keep his paws on the ground. He loves playing with cat toys whether it be self-entertaining or interactive with a person, unleashing his full potential and showcasing his playful spirit. Dexter tends to be a solitary cat, spending a considerable amount of his time engaged in solo endeavors and he does not actively seek attention from the other felines at The Scratching Post Kitchen, all the while being able to coexist peacefully with them. We believe Dexter would thrive best in a home where he is the sole pet.

Volunteer Update February 2025: Dexter is a looker! Have you noticed how it looks like he is wearing boots on his back legs? Such a handsome kitty! While Dexter can be a bit of a busybody efficiently working the kitchen area at The Scratching Post – think going and doing and inspecting everything- still he loves his humans and his human bestie is staff member Amy. Sadly, Amy has recently retired and oh, the sorrow our big fluffy friend will experience when she’s not walking through that door to love on him and give him lots of extra pets and words of assurance. Dexter quickly bonded with Amy and delighted in following her around in the kitchen as she cleaned kitty condos. Should Amy exit to the laundry room area that had a full length window door, he would cry and whine begging her to come back. Oh, the heartache! Cries could also be heard from his condo (where he was put up for night time) when he watched Amy exit for the day. We share this love relationship because Dexter is now single and very much on the market looking for his new bestie, human love. He loves big and deep and with his whole heart. Might his new human be you?

Volunteer Update 2025: Who was the biggest of black poofs that just crossed my path in a blur?? Well, that would be DEXTER! Ask any of the staff if they know who Dexter is and they will give you a resounding “Yes!” Our fluffy friend has a larger footprint and a big personality so it’s hard not to know Dexter. He’s been working hard in The Scratching Post kitchen area since his arrival and he’s curious and athletic and everywhere! We keep a closer eye on him to make sure he’s not being “too much” for some of the other loose cats also working the same space. Again, he’s physically bigger and a bit forward at times in his approach to others. Dexter is friendly from your very first pet and his long coat no doubt is very tempting. Feel free to touch and stroke and pet him, a lot! For those who have spent some time with him, take a seat and be sure to allow plenty of space for him to sink down and make himself comfy. As you can likely surmise, Dexter has an opinion on many things and is not afraid to voice his concern and or bring an injustice to your attention. An example of an injustice might be that you have not opened his condo door up quickly enough in the morning as the staff trickles in. He is all lung and chatter and meow, reminding you that he is there and it’s time for HIS breakfast! We love Dexter and all the full bodied personality and life that he brings to The Scratching Post. Come by soon and experience all that this big boy has to offer his new human friend.
