Sweet 12-Year-Old Senior Girl Looking for Her Next Loving Home

I’ve had Luna since January 2019, when she came to me as a very timid, flighty rescue. Over the past 7 years, she’s blossomed into the most easygoing, low-maintenance companion I could ask for — and now, due to circumstances beyond my control, I need to find her a new home where she can live out her golden years comfortably.

About her:
12 years old, senior and settled
Very low-maintenance — she mostly sleeps and relaxes throughout the day
Loves going on walks with the family
Great in the car — settles right down for rides
Good with other dogs
Must be a home with no young children — given her timid history, she needs a calm, quiet environment
Once timid/skittish as a young rescue, but has grown into a calm, trusting companion after years of a stable home

She’d do best with a patient, gentle family who wants a sweet, quiet dog to relax with rather than a high-energy playmate. She’s not a lot of work, but she deserves a lot of love.

Due to her history as a timid, flight-risk rescue, she has limited tolerance for unpredictable movement and handling. Unfortunately this did result in a bite, she bit our 2½-year-old after being startled/provoked in a way she couldn’t tolerate. Because of this, she must go to a home with no young children — she needs adopters who understand dog body language and can maintain a calm, low-stimulation environment. She is not a fit for households with kids under a certain age, or for anyone inexperienced with reading stress signals in dogs. .

Overall picture: A dog who’s affectionate and easy to live with in a calm, predictable environment, but who has clear, identifiable limits rooted in her early history as a fearful rescue. She’s not “aggressive” in a general sense — she seems to react defensively to specific triggers (being startled, resource guarding) rather than being unpredictable across the board. That’s actually a meaningful distinction for whoever takes her next, since it means her behavior is manageable with the right awareness and setup, even though it does rule out homes with young kids.
