Hound

HISTORY: Atticus and Finch were found as a strays on a local road.

My life has been that of a tumbleweed. But CFC saw a puppy in need. So glad they took my and my brother. Guess somehow they knew we needed each other. My brother has left, and that makes me sad. But he got his forever home, and for that I am glad. Good fellows like me are hard to find, so if you need a great pupper, keep me in mind.

Atticus is a most exquisite 10 month old pup, with a beautiful spirit and delicate soul. He has a deep connection to people. You can see it. He feels it. So many times he has impressed me with his ability to connect with people and in just the right way. Atticus can be that goofy hound puppy, but he gifted with so much more. I call him the healing houndy.

Atticus also has excelled in his basic training. He knows his voice commands, and his hand signals as well. His skills are quite impressive for being such a young pup. Atticus is also house trained and crate trained. A very keen hound indeed. Atticus has a huge over bite and a nub nub tail. Both of which are absolutely adorable. Cuteness abounds. Goofy, playful, jester, cuddler, part time singer, and professional zoomie participant. Quite the resume. Come a check out this cute dude and his mad skills.

More about me February 2025 ~ There’s just so much to say about wonderful me!!

ATTICUS… the Atticus we all know and love from To Kill A Mockingbird is such a strong name to bestow upon a dog. But the person who named this very special hound must have sensed his yet to be discovered intelligence, compassion, and the calm wisdom of the character in Harper Lee’s beloved novel.

Our Atticus is a handsome hound who did not have the most enviable of beginnings. He and his sibling were very young when they were abandoned alongside the road, and found by a caring individual who provided for them until she could bring them to the sanctuary. Perhaps the will to live and the need to fulfil his life purpose is what kept Atticus going.

If you are a “hound” person you will totally relate to the comment that Atticus is very much a goofball, who fully embraces his inner hound. He has the most adorable overbite, a nub tail, and the eyes of a prankster. We are pretty sure that last trait is true of most hounds we’ve known.

At just 10 months of age, Atticus has so much to offer. He has shown off his high intelligence by learning some basic life skills such as sit, down, and proper leash walking at a young age. He loves every person he meets, and is game to make new doggie friends as well. Atticus seems to be very in tune with people’s emotions. He seems to know when to play and do puppy things, but also when someone needs a cuddle. Atticus is crate trained, and house trained.

The only behavior we have seen that needs to be watched is his desire to eat inappropriate items. He had to have an extended neuter surgery due to ingesting rocks. So should Atticus become a part of your world, extra diligence is needed to ensure he does not have the opportunity to ingest objects that could endanger him.

Exercise is important to hounds of any age and Atticus is no exception. Frequent long walks or hikes will help him expel some of his need to move his body and smell out the world around him. Add some quality toys, chew bones, and LOVE and you will find that Atticus will thrive. But best of all, we feel Atticus will provide you with a life filled with hound antics, kindness, and the sense that you are connecting with LIFE in a whole new way – through the Heart of a hound.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to learn what life is like with a hound by your side, here’s your chance to add some sparkle to your life and embrace the true spirit of a hound!

More about me November 2024: Recently voted most likely to make YOU laugh and giggle, ATTICUS is the silliest of hounds and he’s ready to be your new and most loveable 24/7 full time 4 legged friend. Very much a teen at heart and on paper, if Atticus had a middle name it could easily be FUN! Atticus has never met a stranger and oh, what a joy it is to watch him run and explore in our play yard and then come crashing over to us in search of some love and TLC. We had an unattended bag of toys in the play yard during one of our photo sessions and Atticus took it upon himself to quickly and most covertly do a grab and go with plushy Woodstock in his mouth! He was eternally proud of his find and of his sneaky get away, tossing Woodstock as he trotted along and then toting it around in his mouth. Atticus is goofy, active, loving and confident around other dogs. On site, his best friend and roomie is Luna, a like minded doggy who is a perfect match for stronger wrestling and jousting play moves. In his new home, having a full time playmate would beautifully suit his more active outlook on life. As smart and intuitive as he is, he’s also proven to be a quick study of house rules and do’s and don’ts in the home environment. We’re excited to think about the lucky family that will welcome ATTICUS into their home. Oh, the fun you will all have together!
