Looking for a big beautiful puppy who wants to be your best friend, your protector, and your favorite exercise partner? Cheeto might be the guy for you. Be aware that Cheeto is a big boy with big paws to hug you with and a big mouth to give kisses and LOTS of puppy energy. He loves both humans and other dogs and expects them all to play with him and run with him.
If you looked at Cheeto’s photos, you know he is an Australian Shepherd and not a Sheltie. NVSR was approached by a shelter overwhelmed by the flood of homeless dogs transported to Virginia after the storms destroyed animal shelters as well as homes in the storm-plagued areas. We agreed to take three young Australian Shepherds into NVSR since we consider them Sheltie “cousins.”
Cheeto’s foster parents say he is a “very sweet” dog with a great temperament. He really wants to be a Velcro dog who can stay next to his humans as much as possible. He is very affectionate and loves attention, but he is still learning not to jump on people in his enthusiasm to greet them. His foster parents and other NVSR volunteers who have worked with Cheeto say he is an exceptionally smart dog who catches on to new words and commands very quickly. Like most puppies, however, Cheeto has a short attention span at times.
Cheeto would do best in a lively home with an active young dog about his size or larger to play with or with children who are prepared to run and throw toys for him. He must have a good-sized yard with a fence at least four feet tall where he can run full out. Small children who are easily knocked down by a playful dog would not be a good match. Cheeto is a very social dog who needs to be with his humans and would not thrive in a home where he spends much time alone.
Cheeto has been neutered and brought up to date on all vaccinations and tests. He is house-trained, knows how to use a doggie door, and is learning some basic commands. Cheeto loves toys of all kinds and, with a good supply of sturdy toys, can be discouraged from chewing unapproved items.
Cheeto . . . is ten months old, weighs 48 pounds, and is 21 inches tall.
His adoption fee is $450.
