HISTORY: Joan grew up outside tied up with a short chain around her neck. We were able to convince her human that she needed a better lifestyle.
Before coming to us Joan’s previous situation was horrible, and her future was bleak. Left outside on a chain with little to no positive interaction from her human, no friend. Her past was a lonely one . With a makeshift house that was nothing short of deplorable , there were no kodak moments for her. We feared that this poor baby would never recover from such a horrible beginning. Perhaps she was giving up. But we knew there was hope for her if given the right environment. Upon arrival it was clear that her spirit was pretty low, and fractured .She was malnourished, terrified, and shaking all over. But with a nice dry space, warm jacket. heated house with thick straw, lots of groceries, medical intervention, and of course lots of TLC she began to loosen up and come out of her shell. She put on weight and started to trust us people. We began introducing her to a leash and basic commands. She caught on quick, with great gusto. Knowing that inclement weather was approaching us, we wanted to move Joan to a larger enclosure with a bigger comfy house. We wanted to make sure she would know where the house was and use it. I decided that I should crawl through and see if she would follow. I figured with her being so young and excited, I was likely in for a few love bumps. Not. She wiggled in behind me with a Grinch stuffy, gave me a kiss and then flattened out on her back. Belly up and all 4 legs straight out like superman. She was so into the affection that she began grooming my arm. So very content to have me/ someone with her that she soon fell asleep. Gorgeous and grateful this fine toddler is. Now her shiny silver coat matches her renewed big golden heart. Kind of fitting that she found a Grinch stuffie that her former occupant had buried. Joan seems to love everyone she meets. With a unique bark and a helicopter tail, this little girl is hoping to fly out of here and into your heart.
Volunteer Update February 2025: We are so proud of our girl JOAN! For a gal who’s lived her whole life on a short lead, it’s amazing and totally heartwarming to see her embrace what a regular, normal pet world should look like! To that end, we invited Joan to head off site to visit and explore the grounds of a small, local church.
Joan was T-E-R-R-I-F-I-C! Hopping right in the back seat of my car, she was “all in” right away. Our curious and most sweet and delightful lady had the biggest grin on her face while randomly poking her nose out the window crack as we headed down the road. Having lived a more limited life experience, every day is a bucket list day and she’s truly ready to go and do and discover things with you! Joan loved strolling around the church grounds and was very responsive to the camera lady as she encouraged her to pose her best pose on a huge tree stump, a wheelchair ramp and then in random spots on the church property.
Joan has never met a stranger and is open and welcoming of all. Good on the leash, she’s a major sniffer (perhaps she has some hidden hound dna in her? LOL) and really loves being part of the action and in the thick of things. While she can startle over random things (which is understandable), remarkably she’s a pretty well balanced doggy. Joan loves giving and receiving love and attention is a major snuggle bug. She’s done well interacting with other dogs and perhaps having a dog in her new home is a plus so they can guide her to even more perfect pet skills. We’re LOVING this girl we call Joan and could not be more pleased with how open she is to get right into the groove of being someone’s full time companion pet. If driving country roads with a loving gal right by your side appeals to you, we encourage you to ask about Joan today!
