DSH -Buff with Beautiful Amber Eyes

HISTORY: Poco came to us through Community Cats Rescue. He was rescued from a hoarding situation in Fredericksburg, VA, and tested FIV+.

MEDICAL NOTES: FIV+. More about FIV+ here.

People seem to be mesmerized by my eyes, which are the richest and most luminous amber shade they say they have ever seen. Insert blush of modesty here. Did I mention my great Yosemite Sam whiskers and lamb soft buff fur? It’s not uncommon for FIV kitties to have dental issues and I had mine, but ever since the vet took care of them I have gained weight and am called movie star handsome once again. I’m a flighty little guy at times and can be quite bashful with unfamiliar people, but as I cajole you for my much loved treats my shyness is replaced by flirtation and soft head bumps. By nature kindly and peaceful, I get along well with other cats. I may try not to show it but run your hand down my back and you’ll see that I really do enjoy human interaction and getting affection. In a room chock full of friendlies I may fly under the radar, but if you pay attention you’ll surely see me hanging out on the periphery, just waiting for a chance to share in the loving being doled out. I may be a bit of an introvert but beneath this unassuming exterior lies a whole lot of potential. Do come and say hello!

Dec 2025 Update: We’re thinking sweet, shy guy Poco might benefit from a rebranding of his image. When we asked his regular volunteer visitor Scott what was new with Poco, his reply, “Uh you mean the cat in the box?” LOL. Poor Poco. Those whom he accepts into his world know there’s so much more to this fella than just being a feline in a box. As you may recall, he has another volunteer Jami who regularly comes with a comb in hand to give him deep, all over brushes. TY Jami. Scott is slow and persistent in his approach with Poco and is able to pet Poco but Poco is merely tolerating Scott so there is more work to be done. Poco continues to be healthy and seems content with his daily routine which is pretty slow paced, calm and chill. Just as he likes it.

Fall Update 2025: POCO is doing great and living his more solitary life, seems to suit him just fine. He’s still on the radar of volunteer Jami who routinely will stop by and give him lengthy comb out sessions for which he’s most appreciative. Seems like the grooming session could go on forever!! When Poco is not with Jami, look for him outside on the window ledge closest to the screen and perhaps the best view of our outside field area. He’ll get all comfy in an igloo and recline and rest away his day. Poco is content with his life and wants for nothing. He’s healthy and with daily housekeeping and room service, he might say he’s got it made.

Spring Update 2025: I could not be more pleased that Volunteer Jaime is coming by on a regular basis to give me some amazing spa time. For me, spa time means an endless petting and combing session. As you know, in general I’m not super fond of the humans and in most cases will dart and try to avoid them should they come too close. I still have the other Volunteer Scott who comes a callin’ a couple days a week and he still tries to befriend me. He’s good for maybe a micro petor two and then I’m ready for him to go away! LOL. With no emerging health issues, I’m ontarget to enjoy all the long, endless summer has in store for me.  POCO

Winter Update 2025: I can’t recall If I’ve told you about my newer human friend. Her name is Jaime. Jaime is a newer volunteer and gosh, I just really like her and have connected with her. Her energy is perfect for me and her ability to comb me and groom me is just amazing. I love the extra attention I get from her and knowing that she takes pride and is attentive to keeping my coat looking its best, is just really special. I’m still shy and will scamper away from Scott- he’s a 2x per week visitor. While I carefully watch him seated on the wooden stairs as he’s swarmed by others in my room, still I’m unable to muster the courage to join in. He might randomly get in a super sneaky pet here and there, but I’m on to him and rarely allow it to happen. All’s good with me as my health is intact, I have Jaime and I have other cats in the room who respect my desire for peace and quiet. POCO
